A life without fear
As a teenager, Noor* was forced into marriage. Since then, her life has been a flight from violence and abuse. Now, she is beginning to rebuild her future – free, and together with her children.
Noor was just 15 when she was married off. It marked the beginning of a long journey filled with pain, isolation and violence. When her first husband was killed in the war, she was left to care for their two children on her own.
In the hope of finding safety, she married again – only to be met with even greater control, threats and abuse. It felt as though every door had been closed to her. Violence followed her wherever she turned.
When she finally sought support from IM’s partner organisation, AISHA, something began to change. There, she was listened to. There, she was believed. With the help of AISHA’s legal team, she was able to regain custody of her children and reclaim her rights – and, step by step, her dignity as well.
Today, Noor dreams of a secure future for her family. She plans to start a small business in order to support herself and provide her children with the life they deserve.
*For security reasons, the woman’s name has been changed.
