Concerned Youth Organisation (CYO)

Founded in 2002 in Blantyre, Malawi, the Concerned Youth Organisation (CYO) supports youth, women, and children by reducing socio-economic hardships. The organization works with vocational training, economic empowerment, and green enterprises to ensure self-sufficiency and sustainable development. CYO also promotes inclusive education and environmental awareness while mobilizing youth for political participation and climate justice. Through its networks, it influences political decisions and advocates for the inclusion of youth in decision-making, particularly around climate issues and economic justice.

Girls on the Lead

Girls on the Lead Young Feminist Movement was established in 2020 to address the challenges young women in Malawi face, which were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, young women already had limited access to education, economic opportunities, and leadership roles, and faced gender-based violence and discriminatory cultural norms. The movement focuses on combating these systemic barriers and promoting gender equality for young women.

Green Livelihoods

Green Livelihoods (GL) is an organization in Malawi working to promote inclusive and sustainable economic development. Founded in 2006, the organization focuses on strengthening smallholder farmers—particularly women and youth—as well as innovators in green technology. By developing agricultural value chains, promoting climate-smart agriculture, and supporting green enterprises, Green Livelihoods contributes to reducing poverty and creating more sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Point of Progress

Point of Progress is a local, non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young people and children to take action on issues affecting their lives and play an active role in the development process. The organization provides young women and men from diverse backgrounds with a platform to share ideas, exchange experiences, and learn from one another in the fight for a better life. By creating programs and influencing policies on areas such as children’s rights, environment, health, education, and gender equality, the organization strengthens young people’s leadership skills and engagement in community issues.

WAG Disability Rights

WAG Disability Rights is a local organization working to strengthen the rights of women and girls with disabilities. The organization was founded in 2015 and works to ensure that they can fully participate in society and in economic development. Through economic and social empowerment initiatives, information dissemination, and advocacy, the organization works to combat discrimination and strengthen the opportunities for women and girls to live lives of dignity.

Youth Action For Success And Development (YASD)

Youth Action for Success and Development (YASD) is a youth-led organization founded in 2019. YASD works for the development of youth and communities in areas such as sexual and reproductive health, climate change, youth empowerment, gender equality, and education. The organization helps young people and communities discover and develop their abilities to positively contribute to the country’s development goals, including Malawi 2063 and the UN’s global goals, as agents of change.

Youth Initiative for Community Development (YICOD)

Youth Initiative for Community Development (YICOD) works to improve the lives of women, children, young people, and other vulnerable groups in Malawi. They carry out initiatives in health, education, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), child protection, food and nutrition security, gender equality, and climate adaptation. By working closely with local communities, YICOD helps more people live safer, healthier, and more sustainable lives.
