Leen Escaped a Life of Violence
Leen* in Gaza has escaped two violent marriages and is fighting for a life of safety for herself and her children.
Already as a teenager, Leen was forced into marriage — twice before she turned 18. Both times, her life was marked by violence, threats, and control — from both her husbands and their families.
She lost custody of her first daughter due to demands and threats from her ex-husband’s family, and for several years she lived under pressure and oppression. Despite repeated attempts from her own father to force her into giving up her other children, she stood her ground.
Through IM’s partner AISHA, she has received support to continue fighting for her rights. Legal assistance, counselling, and a place where she is met with respect.
Today, she is waiting for the court’s decision regarding her second divorce. She is far from safe — but she is free from the violence.
For security reasons, the woman’s name has been changed.
