The Ceasefire Is Broken – Gaza in Acute Crisis

Categories:

The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is escalating rapidly after Israel broke the ceasefire and resumed its bombings. In just one day, more than 400 people were killed, including 130 children, according to UNICEF. This makes Tuesday the deadliest day for children in Gaza in a year.

The situation is deteriorating by the hour. Overnight bombings have severely hit Rafah and Khan Yunis, forcing thousands of families to flee. The healthcare system is on the brink of collapse, and access to food, water, and medicine is critically low. International organizations are now sounding the alarm about the unbearable conditions and the rapidly rising number of civilian casualties.

Women Are Hit the Hardest

In war, women and children suffer the most, and Gaza is no exception. Women are now forced to give birth under inhumane conditions, without access to proper medical care. Many mothers face the impossible choice of searching for food for their children or staying in shelter from the bombings. Meanwhile, reports of violence against women are increasing, and many have lost their husbands, becoming sole providers in an already desperate situation.

IM’s Partners Are Fighting on the Ground

Amid the devastation, IM’s local partners continue their vital work in Gaza. Ajyal tirelessly supports children and families struggling with the realities of war and insecurity. AISHA, which focuses on women’s rights and mental health, provides support to the women and families most affected by the violence. Their work is more crucial than ever.
