Where we work
IM acts together with partner organizations all over the world. Our operations are based in Lund. In Sweden we also have local branches and members. In all parts of the world where we operate, we work together with local, national, and regional actors. This enables us to respond in the best possible way to the needs and conditions that exist.
Guatemala
In Guatemala, we work to ensure that vulnerable people have the opportunity to organize and make their voices heard by those in power. We collaborate with organizations and partners that support women’s livelihoods, advocate for girls’ right to education instead of early marriage, defend LGBTQ+ rights, and strengthen Indigenous peoples’ land rights. We also support people with disabilities in achieving independence and better living conditions.
Palestine
In Palestine, IM works with partners engaged in both emergency relief and long-term efforts. In Gaza, we distribute hygiene kits, diapers, food, tents, and cash assistance to people affected by the war. We also provide psychosocial support and safe spaces for women exposed to violence, and we run livelihood projects for vulnerable women. In addition, we work to strengthen local civil society and lay the foundations for building democratic structures in the aftermath of the war.
Malawi
To strengthen the position of girls and women and to prevent child marriage in Malawi, IM invests in girls’ education and women’s livelihoods. Several of IM’s partners work with village committees as well as parent and youth groups to raise awareness of the rights of children and women. We also collaborate with organisations that address the impacts of the climate crisis by enhancing the resilience of small-scale farmers, both through sustainable agricultural practices and through diversifying sources of income.
Moldova
IM’s work in Moldova focuses on people with disabilities and young people facing social exclusion. We collaborate with local organisations based in rural areas and smaller towns to achieve sustainable change on individual, community and structural levels, making Moldova a country for all, regardless of ability. We also support initiatives for climate-smart farming, sustainable enterprises, and measures to strengthen local civil society and democratic processes.
Ukraine
In Ukraine, IM works with local civil society organisations to support those most vulnerable in the war. Women, families, internally displaced people, and persons with disabilities receive assistance to manage everyday life in the war-torn country. A key focus is protecting and supporting women affected by gender-based violence as a consequence of the war. IM also supports local civil society initiatives that promote peace, democracy, and the long-term reconstruction of the war-ravaged country.
Sweden
In Sweden, IM works to build a strong and vibrant civil society. We promote democracy and inclusion, acting as a feminist and anti-racist actor. Our activities include language cafés and support initiatives for newly arrived migrants, and we provide funding to grassroots organisations and activists working on issues such as democracy, human rights and climate justice. We also run second-hand operations through Brittas by IM. In Sweden, our local associations and volunteers form an essential part of our work.
